Oceanic Bio Diversity

The oceans around the Philippines contain a greater variety
of Marine Life than anywhere else on the planet.
As organisms evolve to fill up available niches in the environment
they slowly evolve into different species. This process takes
time. The area between the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia
has been stable longer than any other area of the ocean environment
giving organisms here a longer time to evolve. Millions of
years longer. The result is that Philippine reefs usually
have three to five times more variety of coral, invertebrate,
and fish life than reefs in the Red Sea or Caribbean.
Divers who have been to the Red Sea, even professional photographers,
come to Coron and spend an hour after their dive asking, "did
you see this? and did you see that beautiful blue and yellow
nudibranch?" This is a little amazing to those divers
who have done all of their diving in the Philippines and
expect that our variety of marine life is the norm and not
the best in the world.
Any diving vacation to the Philippines is an opportunity
to enjoy what just isn't available in other diving locations.
Bring your fish and invertebrate identification books to
take full advantage of this opportunity.
